In my practice, I offer a customizable dollhouse as a creative and experiential
therapeutic tool for both children and adults. Clients are invited to design a space that feels meaningful, comforting, expressive, or reflective of their inner world.
They may choose everything from flooring and wall colors to furniture, lighting, artwork, plants, and decorative details. The process is intentional and client-led, allowing each individual to engage at a pace and depth that feels natural.
For many clients, creating a physical space makes it easier to access thoughts and emotions that can feel difficult to express verbally. Designing something tangible often opens the door to insight, reflection, and meaningful therapeutic conversation.

The Personalized Therapeutic Dollhouse Experience
This approach is adapted based on age, developmental stage, and therapeutic goals and is always thoughtfully aligned with each client’s treatment plan.

Although tools like this are often associated with play therapy, many adult clients find the experience surprisingly impactful. Designing a space can illuminate values, boundaries, relational patterns, identity themes, and emotional needs that may not surface through conversation alone.
Play remains a powerful avenue for growth in adulthood, often helping us access the “inner child” parts of ourselves that still shape how we experience the world. Allowing space for creativity and exploration within a supportive therapeutic setting can make deeper insight feel both accessible and safe.

Clients are never required to use this tool. Some choose to engage with it for a single session, while others return to it over time as their goals and insights evolve. Participation is always collaborative, intentional, and integrated into the broader therapeutic process.
